A boat carrying more than 50 persons capsized in Rupnarayan in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district, on Monday.
Locals and government agencies have launched search and rescue mission.
It is being reported that few out of 50 victims have been rescued.
As per reports from locals, about 50-60 people were traveling on the boat. Police personnel from the nearby Mahishadol and Tamluk police stations are carrying out rescue operations in the river.
Whole area of West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand are witnessing heavy rainfall and flood like situations.
Most of rivers and streams are flowing above danger lines.Many of these are already caused widespread flooding.
This incident is third major accident involving boat. About two weeks ago many persons were killed in when a boat capsized in river Godavari in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.
On September 13, a boat capsized in Bhopal when devotees were carrying out immersion of Ganapati statue in a lake.11 people died in this incident on occasion of Ganpati Visarjan.
