Flood in Patna, Bihar

The state capital Patna is almost flooded.Areas adjoining river Ganga, Punpun,Son, Ghagra,Gandac etc are more affected. Most of rivers which flows around capital region of Patna are flowing above danger level.

Patna is densely populated with many areas having very narrow roads. Unplanned development of housing colonies in Patna has compounded the problem of flow of rain water.

Almost 80% of colonies in Patna are flooded

The sewerage system in Patna is almost none functioning. Most of newly developed colonies have no serwerage system.

The absence of a functional sewerage system have increased the problem of flooding.

NDRF has launched search and rescue operations in many parts of Patna.Air Force have also employed aircraft and helicopters in search and rescue mission.

State government has announced many steps to ensure safety of citizens. However, the steps taken are inadequate . These steps are too late to stop the flood.

Many areas in Patna, especially the areas around Belly road,Gola road etc face flooding and water logging each year during monsoon season.

Most of the road side drainage are blocked and sewerage in non functional. This makes drainage of flood waters a big problem.

Emergency managers and disaster experts think that Bihar government should take steps to ensure permanent solution to the problem of yearly flooding.
