Death toll crosses 60 in Amritsar Train Accident  as many injured, who were in serious conditions, died in hospitals also.It may increase further. Actions  taken by  Punjab Government Punjab Government has declared Saturday as Day of Mourning. All offices and educational institutions will remain closed today. The Police Commissioner of Amritsar Shri S.S. Srivastava has informed that number of casualties may be more than 60.Capt Amrinder Singh,CM of Punjab has announced an inquiry over this incident.He has also announced compensation for dead and injured.    CM Punjab has cancelled his scheduled visit of Israel to visit Amritsar today. , The Railways helpline numbers The Indian Railways has issued helpline numbers .Railways officials have informed that anyone can call on phone numbers 01832223171 and 01832564485 to get information related with Amritsar Train Accident. The phone number of Manawala railway station are 0183-2440024 and 0183-2402927.The helpline phone number of Firozpur Railway station is 01632-1072. Railways Board Chairman Mr Ashwini Lohani has rushed to Amritsar.Many senior officials are camping there. The incident Till now more than 60 have been reported dead in the massive train accident near Chowda Phatak area in which more than hundred spectators were crushed and injured when two speeding trains ran over the people standing on track to watch Rawan Dahan #RawanDahan in Amritsar at about 1915 hours on Friday evening. During the time of incident,eyewitnesses say that more than 300 persons were standing on those railways tracks near Chowda Phatak area of Amritsar.The event was being organized at Dhobi Ghat ground which is barely two kilometer from Amritsar Railway station. Which trains killed them ? The two speeding trains  ran over the spectators. The first was train number-74643  Jalandhar -Amritsar DMU . The second train which ran over on those who jumped over the  other track was 13006 Amritsar Hawrah Express.Both trains crossed after gap of few seconds giving no chance to victims to escape. The Rawan Dahan  function was held there since decades Locals informed Emergency Manager that the Rawan Dahan function is held at the concerned spot since last 20 years and no such accident ever happened there.Rawan Dahan is not a small event and railways officials and whole Amritsar knew about this function very well.There is widespread anger among masses in Amritsar over this accident and resultant blame game among various departments involved in this incident. Locals blamed that railways should have halted or at least alerted public about the incoming trains.These people were there to just watch the Rawan Dahan like each year. People across the country are anguished to hear this gory incident on the day of Dassehara celebration #Dassehara ,a festival of victory of good over bad forces. What is the exact number of victims ? The exact number of victims in Amritsar Train Accident  is still unknown. Speculation and guess work is being done.About more than 60 are dead and about more than 70 persons are reported to have injured ,many of which are in very serious conditions. The compensation for Amritsar Train Accident victims Punjab government has announced compensation of Rupees five lakh to the next of kin of those who died in this accident.Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has announced a compensation of  Rupees two lakh for the kins of dead and Rs 50000 for those who were injured in this incident.   Emergency Manager is not publishing the photographs of Amritsar Train Accident  and the victims as it is a disturbing sight.We are standing in full sympathy with the families of dead and injured persons.Our heart goes with them.
