Diabetes is rising World Diabetes Day

Today is World Diabetes Day.The theme for this year is Family and diabetes.

14th November has been chosen to commemorate as World Diabetes Day because it is the birthday of Frederick Banting who, along with Charles Best and John James Rickard Macleod, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1922. As per WHO report,more than 400 million people are suffering with diabetes globally. Experts and doctors predict that this will rise as we are doing less physical activity and we eating carbohydrates and fat rich diet. The unbalanced lifestyle is dragging us in the trap of diabetes. As per WHO ,diabetes is a major cause of premature dying, blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke and lower limb amputation. It was the seventh leading cause of death in 2016.Diabetes also cause problems in pregnancy.

Family and Diabetes

This years theme for World Diabetes Day highlights the role of family in management and prevention of diabetes.Your lifestyle and eating habits are decided by family . If each family member is aware about causes and prevention of diabetes,there is very little chance of development of diabetes except the genetic cases. Dr Manish Gunjan, a leading cardiologist,told Emergency Manager Magazine, For a diabetes patient proper diet, appreciate medication and sufficient emotional support are essential.These be best provided by family members only.This year the theme is very appreciated.
