Mega Disaster management exercise in Himachal Pradesh planned

Himachal Pradesh is doing a mega mock exercise of disaster management in the state on 11th July,2019.It will assess the preparedness of Himachal Pradesh for a big disaster.

All 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh will participate in it.This exercise is being conducted by state government under the guidance of NDMA.It is learnt that the Chief Minister,Shri Jai Ram Thakur is giving lots of emphasis on this disaster management exercise.

The Mega Disaster management exercise in Himachal Pradesh is being conducted to streamline the emergency response system and check the role playing of various departments.Many parts of Shimla are ill planned and vulnerable to disasters.

Experts of MDMA under the leadership of Maj Gen VK Naik, consultant,MDMA is supervising this mega mock disaster management exercise.Shri DC Rana,Head of DM department of Himachal Pradesh,Shri Ravi Pandita,Commandant,NDRF,Shri Deepak Pandey,Commandant,Sector HQ,ITBP,Shri Vivek Sharma,DM consultant are officials playing main role in this mega disaster management exercise.

Chief Observers have been detailed from ITBP and Army.District level observers have detailed from ITBP,Army,CRPF, SSB,CISF and NDRF.

Troops of NDRF,Army and ITBP are participating in large numbers.Teams of CISF,SSB,State police and other government and private agencies are also participating in it.

A briefing and coordination meeting was done by Chief Secretary Shri BK Agrawal on 3rd July,in Himachal Pradesh , Secretariat.In this coordination meeting district collectors of all 12 districts, head of government departments, commanders of ITBP,NDRF,SSB,CRPF, Army,Air Force and  Himachal Police participated.

Each department has clear cut defined roles and they have to perform in this exercise accordingly.

The Mall road,Lakad bazar,new Shimla,Sanjholi ,Khalini etc are highly dense areas having narrow roads and unplanned growth of settlements.In case of any major earthquake having magnitude seven or more Shimla will witness very high amount of loss of life and property.
