The iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris has caught fire and continues to burn for a long time in late evening on 15th April,2019.It destroyed most of the wooden structure and spire.
The deputy mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Gregoire , has said that Notre Dame Cathedral has suffered “colossal damages” from a fire which is reported to have started in the high spire .The local witnesses said that the high spire ultimately collapsed after burning for a long duration.
Government officials ae saying that the first responders are now trying to salvage the art and other priceless pieces from the cathedral.It should be noted that this one of the most visited tourist destination in world was housing many rare art pieces .
A cathedral officials say that the entire wooden interior of the Notre Dame has caught fire .They expressed apprehension that the entire interior may be destroyed.
U.S. President Donald Trump has tweeted about this fire in iconic Notre Dame Cathedral.
Trump wrote on Twitter after the fire broke out Monday: “So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris” and made suggestions for how first responders should tackle it.
He said: “Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out,” adding: “Must act quickly!”
This 12th century landmark structure ,located in heart of Paris , is likely to be fully destroyed by this fire.
The correct cause of this fire is not known.As scaffolding is visible on the roof of the burning structure,it can be said that the spire was under renovation work.It is being said that the spire of the 12th century cathedral is undergoing a 6 million-euro ($6.8 million) renovation project.
Some are guessing that the fire may have been caused due to the ongoing renovation work.However,officials have not confirmed this theory.
No deaths have been reported from this site.It should be noted that this cathedral was built on ruins of two old churches.
