Well marked low pressure area over central parts of south Bay of Bengal


A well marked low pressure area lay over central parts of south Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Oceans at 0830 hours IST of today, the 11th December 2018. It is likely to concentrate into a depression during next 24 hours and intensify further into a deep depression during subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move towards south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts during next 72 hours.

The western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu &Kashmir at 3.1 km above mean sea level with a trough aloft with its axis at 5.8 km mean sea level now runs roughly along Long. 70°E to the north of Lat. 30°N.

Cyclonic circulation

An induced cyclonic circulation lies over west Rajasthan & neighbourhood and extends upto 1.5 km above mean sea level. Under the influence of these systems, isolated to scattered precipitation likely over western Himalayan region during next 48hours and isolated rainfall over adjoining plains during next 24 hours.

Dense fog

Dense to very dense fog observed at isolated places over Chhattisgarh; moderate fog at isolated places over Delhi,Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha,South Interior Karnataka and Tamilnadu.Visibility:Jagdalpur-25 M, Bareilly & Nagpur-200 M, Safdarjung, Sultanpur, Bangalore & Tiruchchirapalli-500M at 0830 hours IST of today

  1. Heavy rainfall warning for south coastal Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu: Rainfall atmany places with heavy falls (64.5-115.5 mm/day) at isolated places is likely on 15th Dec 2018. The increased rainfall activity is likely on 16th December over these areas.
