Coronavirus desease or Covid-19 has spread to 53 countries with addition of two new countries Mexico and San Marino.Globally 85 ,403 confirmed cases have been reported out of which 1753 cases are new.
China has 79 394 confirmed cases out of which 435 are new.In China, Covid 19 has claimed total 2838 lives . Fourty seven new deaths have occured in China in last 24 hours.
China is witnessing lesser deaths.China has been implementing strict measures . Within Hubei, The strict implementation of control measures (including social distancing) has reduced the community force of infection within Hubei. It has resulted in the progressively lower incident reported case counts.
Coronavirus outside of China is creating havoc.It is spreading fast and deaths are being reported from far off places.Till date 6009 confirmed cases of Covid 19 has been repoeted out of which 1318 are new cases. 86 deaths out of which 19 are new have been reported globally.
WHO’s strategic objectives for this response are to:
•Interrupt human-to-human transmission including reducing secondary infections among close contacts and health care workers, preventing transmission amplification events, and preventing further international spread*;
•Identify, isolate and care for patients early, including providing optimized care for infected patients;
•Identify and reduce transmission from the animal source;•Address crucial unknowns regarding clinical severity, extent of transmission and infection, treatment options, and accelerate the development of diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines;
•Communicate critical risk and event information to all communities and counter misinformation;
•Minimize social and economic impact through multisectoral partnerships.
*This can be achieved through a combination of public health measures, such as rapid identification, diagnosis and management of the cases, identification and follow up of the contacts, infection prevention and control in healthcare settings, implementation of health measures for travelers, awareness-raising in the populationand risk communication(Source-WHO).
