By Dr Deepak Pandey Emergency manager is a person responsible for delivering the best possible management system for handling an emergency.An emergency manager is responsible for designing and making the operational framework for handling of an emergency. Normally, five components of emergency management system play important roles in emergency management. These five elements are : 1-preparedness, 2-prevention, 3-mitigation, 4-response, 5-recovery. An emergency manager is responsible for designing, taking descision, managing and running each stage of emergency management. Education and training are important part of an emergency managers job. Running awareness campaigns about disasters and emergencies are very important to prepare the society and organisations for disasters. It makes the society and organisations wise enough to avoid risky behaviour, prepare themselves for facing a disaster or emergency. In nut shell, It can be said that an emergency manager is responsible for preparing each member of society or an organisation to avoid risky behaviour and prepare them for facing and handling disasters in such way that resources are optimally utilised and losses are minimised. Emergency management is a continuous process which needs review, analysis, adaptation, and customisation according to the experience of past emergencies and changing character of the society and environment.
