Why should we eat dark coloured vegetables….there are different colours of vegetables and fruits available in our environment…but have you ever realised that dark coloured food items are actually healthy too…let us have a closer look into some of these colours and there benefits….

1) Green..A càlming colour… Green peas provides 134% of the daily recommended value of vitamin A with just 60 calories and pumpkins and green leafy vegetables.are rich in vitamins especially vitamin A, minerals and fibres…vegetable like spinach is rich in vtamin A and iron, broccoli is like an antioxidant, green moringa leaves are very nutritious and rich in antioxidants, the green coloured pulses are rich in protiens, gooseberries are a good source of vitamin C , 100gm of frwsh gooseberries provides 27.7 micro gram of 46% of daily recommended intake of vitamin C,290 IU of vtamin A, it also provides us fiber, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus along with other vitamins and minerals in small amount….green colour signifies good health and wellness….

2) Orange… a vibrant colour it stimulates appetite….it is said that the dark orange colour of oranges is good for health..it is good for your eyes , skin and building of collagen as they are good source of antioxidants and vitamin C.

3) Red…it is the colour of love , passion and hotness. Tomatoes are low in calories but high in minerals and certain vitamins..one medium sized tomato can provide 20% of you daily value of vitamin A strawberries, red cherries, carrots are rich in vitamin A, red grapes, red leafy vegetables like red lettuce are source of vitamin A and all promote good health…red is a fiery colour, the red chillies are hot, it stimulates a person, increases basal metabolic rate and signifies fire and passion…

4) Yellow…Yellow colour is used in India in abundance….the yellow turmeric powder is used inimparting yellow colour during cooking all vegetables and Indian curries.it is also a colour of piousness and used during worshiping Gods..it also symbolizes warmth, comfort and love…the fruits like papaya and mango are a good source of vitamin A, a medium sized mango provides 3636IU of vitamin A,papaya also improves digestion and is also a good source of minerals and antioxidants.Yellow Pulses and dhalls like gram / tuar dhalls are good sources of proteins and helps in body building….in fact the water after cooking of dhall is used in Indian homes to feed young infants and children , bananas are considered to be complete happy food, it is an instant energy provider,it is a rich sourcw of potassium , a 100gm serving provides 358 mg of potassium, it helps in dieting as it has 0% cholesterol and 2.6g dietary fiber keeps blood pressure under check, it helps in sound sleep as it has tryptophan an amino acid which helps in producing melatonin which in turn regulates the sleep , banana also helps during treatment of diorrhoea…cod liver oil…suppliments are taken as a source of vitamin D…it is said , the more yellow the colour of a vegetable/ fruit, the better it is for health.
